It is the competence, motivation and commitment of teachers that forms
the bedrock on which the effectiveness of Bodh's program rests. Bodh
envisages the teacher as not only a person imparting education to
children, but rather a community mobilizer, grassroots planner,
organizer of the learning environment and a catalyst of the community
learning activities. She acts as the link between the child and the
community, between the community and the school and is responsible for
evolving the participative-shared framework of pedagogical and other
activities acceptable to all stakeholders. The nature of the
population to which the program caters to and its stress on continuous
innovation calls for a high degree of sensitivity and creativity. This
in turn creates the need for an intense induction program that aims to
not only develop in the participants a repertoire of skills, but also
an attitude that would enable them to imbibe the Bodh philosophy,
culture and work ethic.
It is our belief, however, that single shot trainings are not
effective. Continuous and effective support needs to be rendered to
teachers in the field and the knowledge gains of the teachers during
the initial training need to be constantly reinforced and new inputs
given.
