The stress under
this intervention is on transforming government primary schools into
community schools wherein 35 government primary schools (1 each from
35 Panchayats) in Thanagazi Block are to be adopted for transforming
them into community schools. The ultimate objective is to transform
all government primary schools subject to an agreement with respective
Panchayats and the Government of Rajasthan. Novib- Oxfam, Netherlands,
has funded this program. The project seeks to achieve its objectives
through following operational strategies:
Creating
educational facilities for enrollment of out of school children in the
age group of 3-14 years (including preschool facilities and centre for
adolescent girls).
Introducing an appropriate curriculum and pedagogy for improving
classroom processes and school atmosphere and capacitating the
teachers for the purpose.
Mobilizing and
preparing schoolteachers, community and PRI for taking ownership of the
school with
the purpose of developing a
community school system.
Disseminating the evolved community school system for replication.
In 2004, the
total number of primary schools under the Jan Pahal program is 26 with
3647 children and 71 teachers. A number of meetings have been held
with community and Panchayati Raj representatives along with officials
of District and State level educational departments. Community level
structures, like VEC Shiksha Panchayat have been constituted and Bodh
has begun training resource persons who will help government school
teachers in the development of appropriate Teaching Learning
Materials. Efforts are also being made to improve teachers' strength
in schools with adverse teacher child ratios with Bodh providing one
teacher of its own to each of these schools.
